Missions

Our GO Strategy

Our Missions Strategy is to "Engage unreached people across the globe with the Gospel through strategic partnerships and gospel-centered living so that 1) sustainable, multiplying churches are formed and strengthened, 2) communities are developed and transformed, and 3) all believers are equipped and compelled to make disciples.”
A Note from Our Missions Minister...

A Note from Our Missions Minister...

Serving globally alongside our Strategic Ministry Partners has been a crucial factor the Lord has used to shape my heart for the The Nations. “Whether in our backyard or across the ocean, Acts 17:26-27 reminds us that God has been (and still is) purposefully working to bring people of the world into a saving relationship with Him. He has chosen to use us, ordinary believers, to share the hope of the Gospel with our neighbors. We all need to live on mission and be willing to go wherever and whenever the Lord may tell us to go." Let us help you find your place in the Mission of God!

OUR MINISTRY PARTNERS

COOPERATIVE PARTNERS

10% of the church's gross receipts are sent directly to the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program in addition to other ministry endeavors funded through the missions portion of the church operating budget.

The International Mission Board is the largest missionary sending agency in the world. The IMB has more than 3,800 missionaries serving abroad and, through our Cooperative Program receipts, is able to fully fund their positions so missionaries don't spend time with personal fund raising. We also designate 80% of our annual GO Missions Offering directly to the IMB.

Serving North America, NAMB seeks to mobilize churches and church planters for the spread of the Gospel in under-reached, metropolitan areas of North America. 32 cities have been identified where church planting initiatives are taking place.

The mission of Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes is to share the love of Jesus Christ with children and families from hard places. Each year, TBCH provides compassionate, Christ-centered homes and support for children and families—regardless of faith background—through our residential care, foster care, counseling, and family care programs. TBCH has three locations serving children across Tennessee including the TBCH Middle Tennessee Campus location on Franklin Road.

Nashville Ministry Partners

Begin Anew serves the Middle Tennessee area through five locations in Nashville, Madison, and Franklin, TN. The program provides three curriculum tracks for students: High School Equivalency test preparation, Computer and Job Skills, and Life Skill English. Enrollment in services is open to persons of all faiths and cultures.

Hope Clinic for Women has served Nashville for 40 years and cares for women, men and families dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy loss or postpartum depression from a Christian perspective. On top of their pregnancy services, they offer healthy relationship counseling, medical care and STD testing.

Legacy Mission Village seeks to be agents of hope for refugees by feeding the hungry, giving care and counsel, providing education and training to those in need, and assisting as refugees adapt to a new culture.

One of the earliest campus ministries at Vanderbilt, the BCM at Vanderbilt Place serves as an outreach to college students at Vanderbilt University. Baptist Collegiate Ministries focuses on students serving, loving and discipling their fellow students in the heart of their college campus.

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their Godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ, and commitment to social involvement. Our youth leaders currently lead Campus Life at Grassland Middle School.

The Oak Cottage is an emerging ministry to women transitioning from the correctional system back into civilian life. With a Gospel-centered approach, Oak Cottage will walk closely with a small group of women in a residential setting to help them find spiritual, emotional, relational and occupational healing and restoration.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is touching millions of lives one heart at a time. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

BrightStone expands the potential of adults with special needs by providing opportunities and solutions that enrich their lives. Their mission is to provide a comprehensive work, social support, and residential community for adults with special needs, expanding their potential and helping them develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our Disaster Relief team is comprised of volunteers from FHBC who work with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board and its Disaster Relief team to help families in areas of natural disaster rebuild and renovate their homes while ministering to them.

Here are the current and greatest needs:

1.  Experienced ESL Teachers – We need 2
(Last time at the GO Celebration, I met a sister who mentioned she had served as an ESL teacher overseas before, and she signed up. She might be a great fit if she’s still interested!)

2.  Child Care Volunteers – We need 3–4
We have about 13 children (ages 5–12) every week during our program, so reliable help in this area is very important.

3.  Home Visit / Language Helper Volunteers – We need 6
These volunteers pair up (2 per visit) and go once a week to our refugee friends’ homes to practice language skills, build deeper relationships, and be a witness for Christ.

4.  Transportation Volunteers – Ongoing need
Once a week, we need help providing rides for  families to and from our classes. If anyone has a minivan or larger vehicle and is willing to help with pick-up and drop-off, that would be a tremendous blessing.

5.  Big Event / Outreach Volunteers (as needed)
For upcoming events like our New Year’s outreach, teahouse events, etc., we need people for hospitality, welcoming families, serving tea, hosting round-table conversations, and general help. These are usually one-day commitments and a great way for people to get involved.

Note: For home visits and ESL teaching roles, we are specifically looking for female volunteers at this time; male volunteers are very welcome and needed for childcare and transportation roles.

We are excited to share that we are now partnering with CarePortal to serve families and children across Middle Tennessee with tangible, specific needs.

CarePortal connects local churches directly with real-time needs in our community — things like beds for children, car seats, diapers, meals, transportation assistance, and more. These are vetted requests from child-serving professionals, and when the Church responds, it helps strengthen families and often prevents children from entering the foster care system.

This partnership gives our church family a simple, meaningful way to live out the gospel by caring for vulnerable children and supporting parents in moments of crisis. When a need is shared through our Forest Hills CarePortal account, you’ll have the opportunity to respond — whether by donating items, providing financial support, or offering practical help.

We invite everyone to join and serve. To become part of our Forest Hills CarePortal network, visit fhbc.org/careportal and sign up today.

North American Ministry Partners

As California natives, Jay and Tiffany have clearly sensed the Lord leading their family to step out and plant Portrait Church in North Redlands, CA. With their four kids, India, Leo, Luca and Lennon, the Stovalls have moved with Gospel intentionality into the North Redlands community. North Redlands is a diverse, underreached suburb of Greater Los Angeles that lacks Gospel witness. Jay’s vision is to give people a renewed vision for Jesus and his church.

Centered in the heart of a working-class neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Redeeming Life exists to make, mature, and mobilize disciples in their city and throughout the world. In Salt Lake City, only 2.2% of the population are affiliated with an evangelical church, but Redeeming Life is committed to evangelism and discipleship in an area that is dominated by Mormon influence and many forms of life-degrading behaviors.

Giving To Missions

Our church leadership prayerfully prepares our annual budget to accomplish our mission through each strategic ministry of our church. Our budget includes support for all of the various ministry partners listed on this page through direct support or support of the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program.Ten percent of the church's gross receipts are sent directly to the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program to further missions across Tennessee, North America, and around the World. Giving to the church budget is the easiest, most encompassing, and most effective way to give to missions at FHBC.

Southern Baptist churches have traditionally given to designated offerings around Christmas and Easter that directly support the IMB and NAMB. FHBC has combined these into one designated offering that is received year round and funds these and other entities.

The GO Missions Offering breaks down as follows:

  • 80% — International Mission Board
  • 10% — North American Mission Board
  • 8% — Tennessee Baptist Convention's Golden State Missions
  • 2% — Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home

You can give to this fund at any time, and it is disbursed annually to help accomplish the missions strategy of FHBC (as set by our Missions Committee). This is an ideal place to give large, one-time gifts. As the principle balance continues to grow, your gift will continue to give as time advances.
